Each month, there are cultural events of every kind. International in nature and appreciated by attentive and refined audiences.Umbria is also linked to its history and roots by annual festivals that enrich the cultural life and art in this region. Thanks to its many celebrations of Jazz, classical and sacred music, the cinema, culture and wine and food, Umbria ranks amongst the best Italian regions and attracts artists and tourists alike.
Umbria Jazz first took place in 1973 and is one of Europe’s most important Jazz festivals. In its time, it has hosted the world’s top Jazz musicians. There are many other prestigious music festivals: Trasimeno Blues features the best national and international interpreters of this genre, the towns around Trasimene host the best Gospel Choirs for Soul Christmas and then there is the Sagra Musicale Umbra – an extremely popular event on the cultural calendar.
Food festivals abound and noteworthy is Perugia’s Eurochocolate – every year, the city is turned into a lively chocolate heaven.
There is always an abundance of folklore events, amongst them the Calendimaggio in Assisi, Spello’s Infiorata and the Palio dei Terzieri in Città della Pieve, the Giostra della Quintana in Foligno and in nearby Tuscany the famous Siena Palio.
